Craftsman Weather Seal Replacement: The Jacksonville Owner’s Guide

If your Craftsman garage door has a weather seal that’s cracked, flattened, or pulling away from the bottom, we stock and install the correct replacement seal for most Craftsman models, with typical installed pricing in Jacksonville running $90 – $180 depending on the door width and seal type. We carry the seals on our trucks, so most Jacksonville replacements happen the same day you call. The way you usually find out is unglamorous: a damp spot on the garage floor after an afternoon thunderstorm, a line of daylight under the door, or a lizard that found its way in and is now living behind your toolbox.

The bottom weather seal on a Craftsman door is the rubber or vinyl strip that runs along the bottom edge of the door panel. It’s designed to compress against the concrete and keep rain, leaves, insects, and the July humidity out of your garage. In Jacksonville, that seal works harder than it does almost anywhere else in the country. The combination of salt air if you’re near the beaches, UV exposure during long North Florida summers, and daily thermal cycling means a Craftsman weather seal that would last eight years in Ohio might give you four or five good years here before it starts to harden and crack.

Which Craftsman Models This Applies To

Most Craftsman residential garage doors sold in the last 25 years use a T-style bottom seal or a bulb seal, depending on the door model and the retainer channel. The T-style seal slides into an aluminum or plastic retainer that’s screwed to the bottom of the door panel. The bulb seal works differently: it presses into a round channel and compresses when the door closes. The difference matters because the wrong seal in the wrong channel will either fall out the first week or never seal properly.

If you still have the paperwork from your door installation, the model is usually printed on it. If you don’t, look at the inside of the door panel, typically near the bottom edge or on a side hinge, for a sticker or stamped number. Craftsman doors were manufactured under several different partnerships over the years, so a 2005-era door and a 2018-era door may use different seal profiles even if both say Craftsman on the outside. That said, the majority of Craftsman doors in Jacksonville use a standard 3-inch or 4-inch T-style seal, and we carry both widths plus the bulb style on the truck as a matter of course. We also stock compatible seals for LiftMaster, Chamberlain, and Genie openers if the seal on the door itself is fine but the opener’s bottom fixture is what’s failing.

OEM Craftsman seals are available for many models, but the aftermarket equivalents we install are functionally identical when matched to the right profile and often half the price. We’re an independent Jacksonville garage door company; we’re not affiliated with Craftsman, and we don’t pretend to be. What we do is know exactly which seal profile your door takes, and we’ll show you the old seal against the new one before we install it so you can see the match for yourself.

Signs Your Craftsman Weather Seal Replacement Is Failing

  • Daylight visible under the door: Stand inside the garage with the door closed and look along the bottom edge. If you can see light, the seal has lost its ability to compress or has pulled out of the retainer. That gap is exactly where rainwater and bugs come in.
  • Cracks or splits in the rubber: Run your thumb along the seal. If it feels stiff and you see small cracks, the vinyl or rubber has UV-degraded. Once cracking starts, the seal won’t last another Jacksonville rainy season.
  • Water pooling after storms: A flat or damaged seal lets water wick under the door. On a concrete floor that slopes toward the house, that water can reach drywall and baseboards before you notice the seal itself.
  • The seal pulls out when the door opens: If the T-channel has loosened or the seal has shrunk lengthwise, it can catch on the concrete and yank free. You’ll see it flopping behind the door or hanging from one end.
  • Pest activity in the garage: Roaches, silverfish, and mice exploit tiny gaps at the bottom edge. A seal that’s compressed flat leaves a welcome lane. In a city built on a swamp, that’s a year-round concern, not a spring-only one.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Jacksonville, a Craftsman bottom weather seal replacement typically runs $90 – $180 installed. The spread depends mostly on door width: a single-car 9-foot door sits at the lower end, while a 16-foot or 18-foot double door costs more because the seal material is priced by the foot and there’s simply more of it. If the aluminum retainer channel is also bent or corroded, we replace it at the same time; a new retainer with the seal usually lands between $120 and $200 total.

That price includes the seal, the labor, removal of the old seal, cleaning of the retainer channel, and a check of the door’s travel limits to make sure the new seal compresses correctly on every close. The price is written down and handed to you before we touch a single bolt. There are no verbal estimates and no invoice surprises. And like every repair Doyle Garage Doors does, the weather seal replacement carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: 365 days from the date of repair, if it fails, we come back and make it right at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

Replacing a bottom weather seal isn’t in the same danger category as torsion spring work, and an experienced homeowner with the right seal profile and a little patience can often handle a T-style swap in an afternoon. The catch is the profile. Buy the wrong seal online, and you won’t know until you’re crouched under the door trying to force a 3-inch seal into a 4-inch channel. We see that at least twice a month: someone ordered a seal online, fought it for two hours, and called us to finish the job with the right part.

The other failure point is the retainer. If your aluminum channel is corroded from years of Pine-scented Florida air, a new seal won’t save it; the whole channel has to come off and be replaced, and that’s a two-person job with the door raised. If you’d rather not spend your Saturday on it, call (904) 549-9535, and we’ll have it buttoned up before the next storm rolls through.
